AW 2023

JRAT’s AW23 collection is inspired by and named for the artist Janelle Abbott’s 94 year old grandmother, Helen Ramona, who passed away in December of 2022. Referential of Mona’s early childhood as the daughter of subsistence farmers in dust bowl ravaged Kansas, the collection evokes the dusty gold and tan of the prairie. Bold multi-colored florals and muted pastels speak to her love of gardening and birding; contrasted with pops of bright orange to celebrate Helen Ramona’s years as a young mother in Seattle during the 1962 World’s Fair. This collection of one of a kind garments is sustainably made from reclaimed, deadstock, and found materials through the zero waste pattern drafting methodology. Helen Ramona is a celebration of life. It’s the personification of Great Depression era ingenuity that Mona demonstrated so relentlessly—all things in existence possess the capacity to be transformed and made new.
